From 15–17 May 2026, ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ welcomed alumni back to campus for a memorable Alumni Reunion Weekend, while graduates across the globe joined in the celebrations through a series of events organised by Global Alumni Ambassadors.

The weekend brought together alumni from across decades, offering the chance to reconnect with friends, revisit favourite places, and rediscover what makes ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ special. At the same time, this year marked the first time the celebrations extended across the world, with alumni gatherings taking place in Nigeria, Ghana, India, Singapore, and the USA.

A jam-packed programme

On campus, the programme offered a mix of social and nostalgic activities, allowing attendees to shape their own experience.

The weekend began on Friday evening with a return to student life, as alumni headed to ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Students’ Union for a night out at JC’s. Alumni got the chance to relive their university days, catch up over drinks, and enjoy music alongside current students.

Saturday began with the inaugural ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Impact Live. The event showcased the impact of philanthropic donations to scholarships, sports, research, and more. Alumni, donors and friends had the opportunity to hear from scholarship recipients, meet student entrepreneurs, and explore research and innovation in areas such as sustainability.

Throughout the day, alumni gathered for informal check-in sessions with refreshments, where they could meet fellow alumni, chat with Dr Luke Langbein-Stott (English BA, 2008, MA, 2010, PhD, 2016) and Leyland Clowsley (Industrial Design and Technology BA, 2019) – members of the Alumni Advisory Board – explore the history of campus with Dr Matt McCullock, share memories and messages on memory walls, and more!

Campus tours offered guests the chance to see sports facilities, sculptures, STEM areas, or to take a full tour by bus, all led by student ambassadors. Alumni also visited Royce Hall, Claudia Parsons Hall, Hazlerigg Building, and the Students’ Union.

Talks from and the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS) celebrated the history of the University – with both LSU and SSEHS marking their 50th anniversaries.

Alumni contributed to the talks, with volunteers David Dixon (Social Sciences BSc, 1975) and Matt Youngs (Geography BSc, 2018 and Environmental Monitoring for Management MSc, 2019) sharing their experiences as former LSU Presidents alongside current Students’ Union President, Mia Jackson, and chaired by the CEO, Liz Monks. Eric Macintyre MBE (retired Head of Higher Education at the former ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ College) and Noël Cameron (Physical Education BEd, 1971, Human Biology MSc, 1973, Biology DSc, 2018) contributed to the history of the SSEHS talk alongside the Dean, Professor Lauren Sherar.

Elsewhere on campus, alumni and their guests enjoyed trying out DigiLabs, playing Boccia and New Age Curling in Holywell, and painting keepsake mugs.

Saturday ended with a BBQ at the Edward Herbert Building (EHB) and although the event moved indoors, the rain didn’t stop the party. Alumni heard from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, before enjoying food, a silent disco with music from the decades, jazz from Tuxedo Swing, and caricature drawings to take home.

Concluding the weekend, on Sunday the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ International Athletics (LIA) meet took place at the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Stadium, with alumni gathering at the Pavilion for a VIP view of the action. Olympic bronze medallist and ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ alum Molly Caudery was among the headline names competing, clearing 4.61m in the women’s pole vault in an impressive early-season outing.

Gatherings around the world

Alongside the on-campus programme, 2026 saw the introduction of a Global Alumni Reunion Weekend, extending the spirit of ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ to alumni communities worldwide.

As part of university-led trips to West Africa, alumni gathered in Lagos, Abuja and Accra ahead of the Alumni Reunion Weekend.

Events were held across Delhi, Mumbai, New York and Singapore, bringing together graduates from across regions to celebrate their shared connection to the University, giving alumni the chance to connect worldwide during the same weekend as the ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ reunion!
